WELCOME TO AUSOME MILWAUKEE

We are an all volunteer Milwaukee area group working to provide social interaction opportunities for teens and pre-teens with Asperger's Syndrome and similar challenges. Our activities for this year are listed below. Other activities are added and sometimes dates and locations are changed.

All activities are family oriented. At least one parent or guardian must attend an activity with their son or daughter. Siblings are more than welcome. Parents are encouraged to become involved in planning if they are interested. Parent networking is a natural offshoot of our activities and we try to stay educated by informing members of local conference opportunities.

If you would like more information or would like to join, please email us. at ausome_milw@yahoo.com. We communicate by email and joining is the only way to stay current with activities and meetings.

There is no charge for membership. Families pay their own way for activities. We try to keep the majority of activities free or at low cost.

Event Tickets
Ausome-Milwaukee would love to get blocks of tickets to local events. If you or your business has access to tickets, and would be willing to donate them to the group, that would be fabulous. Keep this in mind. If an opportunity comes up, call Carolyn at 262 512-9043 or Marjie at 262 375-2070.

Organize an Activity
If there is something your family would like to do, and it is not on our calendar, you can make it happen. It is really easy to do.

1. Contact the facility to get information on cost, and information on things participants would need to know.

2. Call or email ausome Marjie (262 375-2070) or Carolyn (262 512- 9043.) They will get an email out to the group and post the information on this website.

3. Families will rsvp to you. You will need to keep a list of participants and their contact information.

4. You will need to arrive at the event 15 minutes or so ahead of the group. If fees are involved, you may need to collect the money from each family. Often activities are set in a way that each family can take care of their own fees when they arrive.

5. If there is a need to cancel the activity, due to weather or such, you would need to call the participants.

6. If you need help with calling or with money collection, call Marjie or Carolyn and they will get you some help in doing that.

7. For many activities, like our zoo outing where staff directly interacted with the kids, we sent a thank you note to the facility. You might need to see that a note is sent. That's it! It is easy to do and everyone benefits.

Horseback riding and go-karting are two events that could happen if someone would be willing to be the organizer.

Annual Meeting on June 22

This is for everyone! We are meeting at 7:00 p.m. at Nicolet High School's cafeteria to set our course for the coming year, beginning with summer activities. You need to bring your ideas and if you'd like, bring a snack to share to fuel our thinking.

Carolyn and Marjie will have a proposed schedule based on activities that have been well received and a few ideas we have not yet realized. Everyone will have a chance to contribute new ideas as well.

We will divide up responsibilities for organizing the activities for each month. It is really easy...organizing just requires a few phone calls to reserve a spot and then giving the information to Carolyn or Marjie. The information will get out on email and published to this website. The organizer also gets the RSVP's and, if for some reason the event would have to be cancelled, calls the people who had planned to come. That's it....pretty easy.

If you have not yet participated in an event, please think about ways that we can make the activities work for you (new ideas? new times?) and bring those thoughts as well. This group will only be as effective as our communication and participation is. So far it has been great...we can only get better.

The Nicolet cafeteria is on the north side of the building, acoss from the tennis courts. We will post a few signs by the entrance.

Hope to see everyone there. This is also a great chance to meet other members and get involved. as many people do not yet know eachother, we will have name tags for everyone.

Upcoming Event on May 22

Mini-Golf at the Ranch

We are scheduled to go mini-golfing at The Ranch from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. We will also have the use of a community room for this gathering. Bring lunch with you, and perhaps a snack to pass around.

The cost for golfing is $8.50 per student. If we have more than 10 students, then the cost drops a bit, but figure on $8.50 and we will work out the details if we get the discount. The Ranch is located at N84 W 19100 Menomonee Avenue in Menomonee Falls. Please RSVP either by calling Marjie Tomter at 262 375-2070 or by emailing to ausome_milwaukee.
